Pray

This post is solely for the victims in Christchurch. Since September 4th 2010, Christchurch has experienced their biggest earthquake yet and it's as big as 7.1 magnitude. The highest magnitude by far is 9.5 and for New Zealand to experience a 7.1 quake spells only disaster. That happened few months back and today, we got another devastating news. An aftershock as high as 6.5 strike Christchurch once again yet this time, in the busiest hours of the day. 65 lives were lost and that's not even the final death toll yet.

Watching on news. People crying, bleeding and desperately calling their loved ones on the phone, it breaks my heart so much. I couldn't even imagine myself being in that situation. Losing your home, your friends, your loved ones within seconds. It all happens so quickly that I don't think it's even possible for me to accept all the facts. Fresh water and electricity are cut off, you have no place to stay. I especially felt for the International Students who are studying in Christchurch. As a oversea student myself, I honestly couldn't imagine how would it be like. All alone in this wrecked place where you can't reach home. It is truly a dark day for Christchurch.

Isn't it ironic that the place is called "Christ-Church"? and yet so much has happened there? Christchurch has the most beautiful cathedral and churches. Yet it's all coming down to nothing now. When I was a kid, I always get this joke from friends asking:"If you were in an earthquake, what's the safest place to be?" The answer would be on the plane. But as I think, there's no such thing as a safest place except for Heaven. Yes, you might be able to escape the quake but you can't escape the damage it did to your heart. Earthquake is not a matter of joke to me anymore. I don't think natural disaster should even be a joke.

Posting this probably wouldn't help the victims in Christchurch. It wouldn't be happen to be a charity blog for people there. I wouldn't earn money and give it for charity. But I believe in something much more powerful than money. God. So if you do too, please don't hesitate to just mutter a small prayer for the victims. A flame can spread into a fire. So can a prayer. You might not be able to help, but hand this job over to God and trust that He'll protect the people in Christchurch from any more harm.

My deepest condolences,
Thalie.C
