Wassup people! So I have just recently started my holiday and well, it's not a very productive holiday but I guess you could say its quite a relaxing one instead.
I have been going to the cinemas quite frequently lately.
Well, to be fair, it was only twice but then I already have a line up of movies that I wanna watch over the holidays, so I guess I'll be a movie junkie this holiday.
As I was saying, the two movies that I have watched for the past 2 weeks was World War Z and Man of Steel, so, this is just a little review of what I think of both movies.
If you are planning to go and watch these movies and you haven't yet, I suggest you to stop reading cause it will be a very heavy spoiler post.
But if you already did and just wanna see how opinion differs from yours, well, you are more than welcome to read on.
FIRST OFF,
WORLD WAR Z.
I give it a 7.5/10.
Zombies and Brad Pitt, seems like you can't really go wrong with that equation y'know. Personally, I am a huge zombie game fan. I've been playing like Left 4 Dead, Black Ops II and like other zombie related games (except Plant vs Zombies) for like the past few months, so when I found out there's going to be a zombie movie soon to be released, I was already quite biased and quite thrilled about it. So I went to watch this movie with my other two zombie game companions, Jonathan and Ian. While I don't really know how they feel about the movie, I do know that I absolutely love it.
Comparing to previous zombie movies that I've watched like Resident Evil, 28 Days Later, and also the tv show, The Walking Dead, I have to say that World War Z did not disappoint at all. Period. Unlike those movies, World War Z actually has a story! Well, it is based on a novel so it should have a storyline, but what I meant was, unlike other zombie movies where they target just to scare the audiences, World War Z actually involves some mysteries and also a lot of actions. All in all, it keeps you on the edge.
p/s: Please don't go and watch Warm Bodies cause its just like a zombie version of Twilight.
Seriously though, don't.
And next off,
Man of Steel.
Okay, this is going to be a very long review as this movie really hits the heart.
I give it a 10/10.
I dunno about you guys but I grow up watching DC heroes rather than Marvel heroes. I mean, sure I know Wolverine, Storm and the X-Men but not really Iron Man nor Thor and the other avengers. I grew up watching Justice League and grew up with so many different versions of Batman and Superman so of course, Superman really hits me right in the childhood. I have always admired the Justice League. But ever since I've watched the dreadfully awful series of Spiderman by Tobey Maguire, I just loathe superheroes movies. I honestly hated how Tobey portrayed Spiderman as this weak, love sick, and extremely vulnerable "hero", who really, only cares about this girl that he can't have and hence, decided to sulk his way ALL THROUGH the whole Spiderman series. So, thank you, Andrew Garfield, for redeeming that role of Spiderman.
Anyway, this isn't really about Spiderman, its about Superman.
So, quite similarly to the previous Spiderman series, Superman Returns kinda portrayed Superman as that kind of guy too, which made me think like, y'know, all superheroes really care about is the people they love and if they can't have them, they are crushed. I mean, sure, its fair to be depressed and be human about emotions, but its never wise to let emotions to get the better of yourself. Thats my opinion anyway. I just don't like seeing superheroes being all weak and mushy. I mean look at Iron Man, even though when he thought Pepper was dead, he was still very much concentrate on defeating the villain, now that, is the definition of being a hero.
Going back to the actual movie.
Before I actually went and watch Man of Steel, I heard from people around me that the director actually kinda lightly portrayed Superman as this Jesus figure, which made me even more interested in the movie. So, overall, it did not disappoint me.
Unlike the previous Superman, this Superman, is actually a very very tough guy, not just physically, but mentally. Having to grow up in such a harsh environment, like being bullied and stuffs, yet, still having the heart to save people and the control to actually not "fight back" when all he need is just to punch the bully in the face, proves that Clark Kent is definitely a real man. It is definitely not easy, just to sit there and listen to all those harsh comment, when you know that you have the ability to shut them up, but he did. So I am very impressed with him to be honest. The movie itself is very emotional as you can pick up little hints here and there where they kinda portrayed Superman as Jesus, for example, surrendering himself to Zod without putting up a fight. I swear, the more I am typing this, the more I actually love him. Not to mention he's hot.
But yea, I will just leave it here.
Yours truly,
Nathalie.
